Hoopers Training
short course

Hoopers training course description

Hoopers training is fun for both dogs and handlers, in a safe training environment. It involves learning handling techniques and skills to encourage your dog to take a path through low impact obstacles, beginning with small sets and finishing with flowing courses.

In hoopers, the team is a one handler and one dog partnership. Teams work together over 4 classes to build a training relationship based on positive reinforcement techniques. With a focus on skills and handling set out in the learning objectives, teams take turns in the training area with the instructor.

Hoopers training sets and courses encourage a dog to run naturally, with suitable teamwork challenges according to level of ability.

What happens?

There are a maximum 4 teams per class and classes are 1 hour, with each team having at least two turns at training. There is only one team in the training area for 1:1 training with the instructor. The next team does not enter the training area until the previous team has exited.

Dogs can enter the training area with a lead attached to a harness, flat collar or both. Lead and harnesses are to be removed before the dog starts to train. A dog can run with a flat collar or without a collar.

What to bring?

Handlers are encouraged to bring treats and/or a motivational item, such as a tug toy, to use when training. Please also bring a chair for yourself and a crate or mat for your dog.

Instructors will provide all hoopers equipment for the respective training session and will also provide weekly lesson plans, sets and course designs.
